The Kalkaska Public Transit Authority (KPTA), also known as Kalkaska Area Transit (KAT), began operating a county-wide public transportation service on October 8, 1984. Kalkaska County is the hub of Northwest lower Michigan.
Working with the local Commission on Aging we are able to assist the elderly of our county with their transportation needs. In a contract with Munson Medical Center we are able to provide medical trips to their facilities for Kalkaska County residents at no cost to them.
Kalkaska County residents have supported the public transportation system by voting in a millage to help provide public transportation for the county residents.
KAT provides a range of services including "Flex" routes within the county and to Traverse City, and student transportation. For information about how to use KAT and to schedule a ride, contact our dispatch office at 231.285.6808 or click on the Services page on this website.
